Should I Get a Chemical Peel the Same Day as Tox?

When looking at different treatments to combat signs of aging, you may be wondering - can I do a chemical peel the same day as my botox®, dysport®, or other neurotoxin treatment?. Well, if you are combining them with a VI Peel® treatment.. The answer is YES, ABSOLUTELY, and YOU BETTER!!

Hello! My name is Caitlin, I am an aesthetic RN and I am here to discuss the different treatment I offer here at Purra MedSpa & why. My goal is to educate you & make you feel more confident in yourself & receiving these treatments from a skilled & licensed provider.

So, for today, let's talk TOXBOOSTER™. Yes - a powerful name for a very powerful treatment. The ToxBooster was released as a safe, efficient, same day treatment after a clinical trial that was recently published in the journal of drugs in dermatology (JDD. The IRB-Approved clinical trial for VI Peel combined with Neurotoxin has proven that a large range of patients have benefited significantly from this treatment. Let’s go over the main points:

  •  Boosted neurotoxin results by 36%

  • study was based on photographic matching, wrinkle severity scale, uniformity of pigment scale. and skin tone scales

  • 30 healthy subjects from 30-70 years old, both men & women of varying race, ethnicity, and skin concern

  • the ingredients in VI peel proved to be a proper antibacterial cleanse prior to toxin injections

  • no reports of adverse events

  • 96% of respondents were likely to repeat this treatment

  • 59% less pigmentation and sun damage

  • 60% less wrinkles at 30 days vs 37% at 7 days

  • 70% improvement in skin tone

Crazy results, right?! Why are patients so happy with this? Well, as stated by Wendy E. Roberts, MD, FAAD and Nancy Miller, RN, MBA, “collagen degradation and wrinkling of the skin are caused by multiple intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Addressing the wrinkling in the skin is often accomplished by reducing muscle contractions with the aid of neurotoxins as well, as the use of chemical peels to improve skin elasticity, stimulate collagen regeneration, and textural refinements”.

The main point - you need to target MORE than just muscle movement to accomplish younger, healthier, brighter looking skin! If you are wondering how exactly the VI Peel accomplished this, we can break that down as well.

VI Peels are medium-depth chemical peels. All 5 of the facial peels available are able to accomplish medium depth. This is important because medium depth peels are able to penetrate to the papillary dermis. This depth will improve moderate pigmentation including melanoma, acne, and acne scarring, texture & wrinkles. It is also used to smooth rough skin and treat some precancerous skin growths i.e actinic keratosis. All five facial peels are also safe for all fitzpatrick skin types, which is a huge bonus as a lot of chemical peels are not, or have increased risks with darker skin tones.

The active ingredients found in the VI Peels are as listed below:

  • retinoid acid; penetrates the skin inhibiting melanin production & increasing cell turnover

  • trichloroacetic acid: TCA targets signs of agin by boosting collagen & exfoliating the skin

  • salicylic acid: prevents inflammation by killing bacteria and exfoliating inside walls of pores

  • phenol: numbs the skin

  • ascorbic acid: powerful antioxidant that reverses free radical damage, evens skin tone and prevents future damage

Depending on which peel of the five you may choose, there are additional active ingredients for those primary skin concerns found in the peels. If you would like more specific information on this, check out our skincare page that breaks each peel down: https://www.expressionspurra.com/skincare-1

Lastly, and maybe my favorite thing about VI Peel, is the aftercare take-home kit. Every peel comes with a personalized take home kit that is specific to your peel - and FREE of charge to the patient. This kit will include everything you need for the 7 days post peel (and trust me, there is much more than what you need in those little tubes I have been using sunscreen for 2 months). Specifically in your kit you will find cleanser, sunscreen (SPF 50), post peel protectant, post peel towels and an instruction booklet. However, the instruction booklet is not necessary if you download the VI Peel app as that will have all of your instructions & reminders of your daily skincare for the next 7 days!! It helps me a ton & keeps track of my progress photos which makes it so easy for me to see how big of a difference I see in only 7 days.

Overall, I LOVE the ToxBooster treatment and hope that I have made many of you see the immense benefits of combining medical based skincare with your neurotoxin! Remember, doing these together will:

  • Lift sun damage & dark spots

  • Improve rough texture & dullness

  • Reduce facial lines & wrinkles

  • Increases collagen production

  • Improves skin sagging and elasticity

  • It’s easy! In & out in 30 minutes!

  • Gives you a fresh, youthful glow with results in as few as 7 days

Hope this helps you learn something new & feel more confident in your future aesthetic procedures :)
